What is "La fête de la musique"?

"La Fete de la Musique" is a long established tradition in France which takes place on 21st June of each year, the day of the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere.

The idea behind it is for every music maker, amateur or professional, to come out onto the streets, the squares, and the cafés to play or sing for free as the public wanders from place to place and from artist to artist. This event embraces all different styles of music from opera to acoustic rock, always in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Young and emerging musicians are encouraged to take part in this event alongside established performers, forging new alliances and exchanges between different musical genres.

The Alliance Francaise de Glasgow has been following this tradition for 8 years now by organizing concerts.

We hope to see you there!
