Barbara Carlotti will play live in Glasgow at Maggie Mays on June 22nd.

Baudelaire said it first : people are torn between spleen and ideal, and most masterpieces embody a little of both. On her first album - Les Lys Brisés, released in 2006 - Barbara Carlotti displayed a gift for dark songs of the highest class, and sweet, splenetic insights could be found lurking in every line. A track like "Cannes" was typical : a wry tale of the movie festival which somehow conjured the troubled euphoria of early Françoise Sagan. As the first and only French artist to work with English producer 4AD, Barbara Carlotti seems to be perceived outside France as an archetype of Parisian chic. But anyone who has met Barbara, or seen her on stage, will tell you that her real nature is a long way from this image.

Following the release of her latest album, L’Idéal, Barbara has accepted the invitation from Alliance Francaise to come and perform in Glasgow. The concert will take place at Maggie Mays (60 Trongate, Glasgow G1 5EP) on June 22nd (exact time to be confirmed).

Tickets £5 for all available through Alliance Française (call the office at 0141 331 4080), Maggie Mays and Tickets Scotland.
