Since 1982, the date of 21st June has become synonym with Fête de la Musique. It is the first day of summer, in France (and sometimes in Scotland ;o) the weather is very nice, it is shortest night of the year and people of all ages who wish to take to the streets can do so, together, celebrating live music and enjoying life.
Since 1982, Fete de la Musique has been an opportunity to communicate and share a very special moment through music. As part of the West End festival, the Fête de la Musique is above all a free popular fête, open to any participant who wants to perform in it. This Music day allows the expression of all styles of music in a cheerful atmosphere. It aims at a large audience, working to popularize musical practice for young and not so young people from all social backgrounds. Thanks to the impulse and the dynamism of the French cultural network abroad (the departments of Cultural Affairs at the French Embassies, French cultural Centers and Institutes and the Alliances Françaises) the Fête has an important international growth. It is celebrated in more than hundred countries. Since many years, we are very happy to take part of this tradition in Glasgow and the 2008 edition of the Fête de la Musique was again a huge success. For hundreds of people, this was a joyful and friendly moment celebrating music and musicians . Despite the rain people came to listen twelve hours of free gigs at Brel, (in association with the West End Festival and the Alliance Française de Glasgow) on Saturday 21st and a concert live of Barbara Carlotti at Maggie May’s for the Fête de la Musique extra-time on Sunday, June 22nd with The Alliance Française de Glasgow thanks you all for coming here, thanks to artists: Barbara Carlotti, Eilidh MacAskill, the Ex-Men, the Nanobots, the Will’o the Wisp, Niall Connolly, the Marco Cafolla Quartet, Stewart Forbes and Mira Opalinska... thanks to Brel, Maggie May’s, the West End Festival, the Glasgow City Council, Massilia Rock, the List, Easyjet… You can now see the posted pictures on www.echosdelafete.net
