The next meeting of the café Littéraire will take place on Wednesday 9 January. "Le rapport de Brodeck" by Philippe Claudel will be the book being discussed.

Brodeck is not a professional story-teller. His job consists in writing brief notes on plants, trees, seasons and wild animals, rain and snow, in other words, an almost meaningless job for his administration. Brodeck is not even sure his reports reach their intended destination. Since the war, mail services have not worked very well and it will take some time before they do. ’You don’t have to write a novel, Rudi Gott, the local ferrier said, just tell things, that’s all, just like for one of your reports’ Brodeck accepts. at least to give it a try. Just like in his reports then, since he doesn’t know any other way. But for this, he warns, everybody will have to agree, the whole village, and all the surrounding hamlets. Brodeck is extremely meticulous, he does not want to hide anything of what he saw, he wants to find the truth he does not know yet, even if not everybody wants to hear it. [adapted from evene.fr]
