Numerous French artists and writers are coming to Scotland this summer.
If you are not going to France this summer, France will come to you! French actors, writers, and musicians have been invited to most of Scotland’s major summer festivals. Edinburgh is barely 50 minutes away on the train, the following events are certainly worth the trip.
The Edinburgh International Festival will welcome l’Orchestre des Champs Elysées on Monday Aug, 17th (event details).
Philippe Claudel, author of Brodeck’s report, Grey Souls and I’ve Loved You So, which he also directed for the big screen, will be at the Edinburgh Book Festival on Monday Aug. 17th. Also invited by the festival will be Mathias Malzieu, former lead singer of French band Dionysos, on Wednesday Aug. 19th. He will discuss his novel, The Boy with the Cuckoo-clock Heart
(Bookfest website).
The French will also be at the fringe with Cocorico with physical comedian Patrice Thibaud in an utterly original wordless duet with acrobatic pianist Phillipe Leygnac (event details). Also at the fringe will be French theatre company Fiat Lux with two different shows: Folies and Strike.
Finally, the Edinburgh International Jazz Festival is dedicating a whole strand of its programme to the French Jazz New Wave. With support From the French Music Export Bureau and French cultural agency CulturesFrance, the festival invited Gipsy Jazz band Les Doigts de l’Homme, pianist Sophia Domancich and guitarist Sylvain Luc.
The Jacques Loussier trio will, once again, bring audiences to their feet in electrifying reinventions of the works of JS Bach. Rumour has it the Jacques Loussier trio will also be performing in Glasgow in the new year (Sunday 21 March 2010 at 3pm, City Halls, Grand Hall).
