This month the GFT features an Agnès Varda season – a tribute to a cinematic innovator.
A true pioneer of the French New Wave and Rive Gauche, the feisty 82-year-old Agnès Varda is still creating filmic sensation today. This short touring season from the British Film Institute includes her compelling features Cléo from 5 to 7 (1963), Le Bonheur (1965) and Vagabond (1985). A trio of her short films focusing on photography will also be screened: Salut Les Cubains, Ulysse and Ydessa, Les Ours Et Etc, and documentaries The Gleaners and I (2000) and The Beaches of Agnes (2009), her self portrait which takes viewers from her childhood to her 80th birthday.
