Conference : From Airdrie to Burundi

Date: 17 Apr 2025, 7:00pm - 8:45pm GMT+1 UK

Margaret Henderson was brought up in Airdrie. As a young woman, in 1969 she joined Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) after studying languages at university. Choosing to go to a Francophone country, she worked as a volunteer teacher in a girl's secondary school for a year in Burundi in Central Africa. Margaret will share her experiences of living and working in the school at Ijenda at the highest point in Burundi, the land of 1001 hills – a very different, challenging but exciting life for a young woman from Airdrie which made an impact on her which has lasted throughout her life.

This event is organised by the Franco-Scottish Society. As always, the evening will include a warm, social gathering for catching up with old friends and meeting new ones in both French and English, with wine and soft drinks provided. The presentation is open to all students and friends of Alliance Française Glasgow. However, numbers are limited, so we encourage you to register in advance to secure your spot.
