Concours Printemps des Poètes
Le Printemps des Poètes (Spring of Poets) is an annual French event celebrating poetry, typically held every March. It was launched in 1999
by Andrée Chedid and Jean-Pierre Siméon with the goal of promoting poetry, making it more accessible, and celebrating it in all its forms.
Le Printemps des Poètes aims to revitalize poetry in cultural life, making it dynamic and contemporary, and encourages the sharing and
discovery of this literary genre. Schools, libraries, associations, and cultural institutions actively participate in the event across
France and in other countries.
On the occasion of the Printemps des Poètes (Spring of Poets), the Alliance Française of Glasgow organized a poetry contest. This contest
invited participants to explore the theme of 'Volcanic Poetry.'
With a total of nine poems submitted by both native and non-native French speakers, the contest showcased a diverse range of interpretations, each offering a unique vision of the theme.
This year, we had the privilege of having three ‘formidables’ members on the jury:
- Aurelie Noel: With 25 years of experience as a French literature and language teacher, Aurelie specializes in poetry. She taught literature for six years at the University of Glasgow and French language for two years at the University of Stirling after completing her PhD in the United States.
- Joy Charnley: A former French teacher at the University of Strathclyde, Joy is also a member of the board of the Alliance Française Glasgow.
- Greg Kerr: A French lecturer at the University of Glasgow, Greg's main research interest lies in modern French poetry. He wrote two books on the subject.
